Labyrinth Response

In Greek Mythology Labyrinth is a place where it was supposed to hold and capture a Minotaur(half man and half bull). But it was built so cunningly that the designer himself couldn't escape after he had built it. In THE BEAST, chapter 12 is labeled "Labyrinth".Why?
In the book Gabi and Spoon are trapped in a "labyrinth" because they are having all these problems and it feels as if they can never get out. Gabi is using drugs, she says that one day everything seemed so clear in her life and after Spoon left for Wallingford everything started to fall apart. After a few months Spoon came back and found out what was happening. He tries to comfort Gabi,trys to understand her but can't. Spoon finds out Gbi does drugs and he gets trpped in the "labyrinth" with Gabi. Now Spoon is trying to find away to get Gabi out of doing drugs and for both of them to escape out of the "labyrinth". The labyrinth is their problems.

Big Joe's Funeral

This book is about Walter Dean Meyers. Big Joe is one of the respected people on 145th street. Whenever you need something you can go to him and he'll help you out. One day he canceled his insurance and got 18,000 dollars. H e sadi he wanted to do his own funeral so he couldsee what people waould saya bout him. During the funeral the girl that sang cried. People said oggd things about him. Ofcourse Big Joe was in his coffin (i dont know how he could breathe. At the end Big Joe got out and said to start the party. During the party, cops came in and asked where the drugs were. Everyone was confused. The cops left b/c someone had called them and said it was a mistake. I think it was kind of funny for Big Joe to throw his own funeral. I think it was foolish too. It was wrong when the cops just came in and asked who had the drugs.

Scorpions #2

I have just finished reading the book Scorpions. This book is 216 pages long. After Jamal was asked to be the leader of the Scorpions, Jamal got into a fight with Dwayne. He used a gun against Dwayne around the end of the fight. Jamal got that gun from Mack. Mack was the former leaders'(Randy (Jamals' older brother)) warlord. After the fight Jamal and Tito was thinking whether to join the Scorpions or not. Jamal decides to be in the Scorpions and Tito too. Mack and Jamal were tight. Indian and Angel didn't want Jamal to become the leader b/c he was to young. But Mack said that Jamal will stay the leader. Later Jamal's mom found out that Randy got stabbed while he was in jail. This messed up Jamal's mom. One night Jamal and Tito went to talk to Indian and Angel. Jamal told Tito to stay hidden until something happened. Indian and Angel attacked Jamal, that's when Tito came in. Later when Mack went to talk to Indian and Angel they started with him so Mack shot Angel and he beat Indian up pretty bad. At the end Jamal told Mack that he should be the leader. After a while of talking Mack agrees and he becomes the leader. Tito leaves to go to Puerto Rico to live with his father. Jamal and Tito say goodbye,but then Tito comes out running to Jamal and hugs him... This book was great. But it was sad at the end when Tito was leaving. I'm glad Mack became the leader instead of Jamal. I mean Jamal can fight, but he's still too young. I wonder what Randy will do when/if he gets out of jail. I like Sassy at times. Shes nice and can talk back to anyone. But sometimes she talks back at the wrong time.

Scorpions by Walter Dean Meyers # 1

In my literature circle group we are reading "Scorpions" by Walter Dean Meyers. Jamal is a boy in this book that would always be arguing with his little sister,Sassy. Jamals' mom works and Jamal and Sassy stays home. Jamal's brother Randy is in jail for atleast 7 years. In school all the teachers always gets on his case. Mr.Davidson keeps asking him why he is late and when Jamal doesnt answer Mr.Davidson gives him detention. There is this boy named Dwayne who always gives him a hard time about his appearence.
I think the book is very realistic. Dwayne annoys me because he can never leave Jamal alone. Sassy is funny she's a smart mouth. She always has a good comeback whenever she's fighting with Jammal. It's funny.
